Girl, Get off the Crazy Train
The crazy part about being a creative entrepreneur is all of the grand ideas that come to mind. You know where that leads right? You guessed it, this must be what I am meant to do with my life right here, right now in this very instance. As I proceed to go further and further down the rabbit hole of domain names, events, launch dates, and wondering how in the world I’m going to get it all done; I begin to crumble. I immediately resort to how unsuccessful I am and how I should be a millionaire by now with all of these unexecuted concepts. Let’s not forget about the blood, sweat, and tears I am currently putting in for the makeup business and blog that have quickly turned into overwhelm and defeat. Now that all of these fragmented thoughts with looming storylines have entered my head and are headed toward my heart; I have to finally stop and emphatically scream ENOOOUUUGGGGHHH!!! Girl, you be doing TOO much!
In a world filled with the notion that you are never enough or you are not doing enough, we have to have a reality check. We have to stop and ask ourselves, who are racing to the finish line? What is the purpose in creating all of this stress? What is it that we are really trying to accomplish? Go ahead, ask yourselves those questions. I bet your answers are leading you to say…girl, you be doing too damn much.
Now how do we fix this doing too much syndrome? I will tell you, we just STOP. Here are 3 ways that I have found help me to combat this very issue head-on.
Take a Deep Breath
In the world of overwhelm we often forget to do a very simple yet important thing…BREATHE. Now that I have begun my journey to incorporate Yoga in my life, I have learned the powerful act of breathing can change so many things like changing my uptight mood to one of calmness to releasing the tension I feel in my body to calming my frantic mind into a place of serenity and peace. This taught me the importance of learning to take clearing breaths in my everyday life. Trust me you don’t need yoga to establish a ritual of deep breathing. All you have to do is simply take a quiet moment to yourself, close your eyes, and take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Before you know it, those rapid thoughts will cease and the anxiety will subside from all of the unnecessary stress you have placed on yourself.
Refocus Your Mind
Let’s put things in perspective. The fact of the matter is that you cannot do it all. That is is a sobering thought. Now, that you have realized that you are not omnipresent and you cannot clone yourself it is time to refocus on the things you can do. Yesterday, my anxiety had gotten to an all-time high about all the things I had set out to accomplish at the beginning of the year and how far I have actually not gotten. I then remembered something my former pastor said in a sermon one day. He said, “go back to that thing that God last told you to do and do that”. It slapped me in the face so hard all of that anxiety went out of the door. That was the pivotal moment that caused me to refocus. Now, I know exactly what I am supposed to be doing and that is where I am going to keep my focus until it is complete and hopefully I will see many of you supporting when I launch it next year. I’m not gonna give it away now though, you just have to keep tunning into Love Marliceia for the big reveal. This leads me to my final tip for you all to stop the madness.
Stop Comparing Yourself
Hey you! Yes you, dare to be different and not like everyone else. Remember, no one can beat you at being you but somehow we lose sight of that so easily. I’m preaching to the choir here. I recently wasn’t selected for a business program that I felt would have helped me get things moving in a forward direction, but not so. Frankly, if it were meant for me to be a part of that program, I would have been selected, but it was not meant for me, so I need to press on and find another door to kick down. I congratulated my friend that did get selected and I can truly say that I am happy for her. This is the point where we fall prey to the curse of comparison. We begin to analyze everything about ourselves and try to measure up to the person standing beside us when we have no idea what they have been through or what lies ahead for them. These are the times we must learn to stay in our own lane. There is more than one way to the top and if we focus on the path that is designed uniquely for us instead of trying to hop on someone else’s we will find that our own lane is way less crowded than sharing theirs; therefore propelling us to our pre-destined greatness. In a world of social media illusions, this can be hard. If you find yourself facing this hardship, then it time to disconnect and unplug for a bit to focus on you and revel in all of the amazing you are wrapped up into one spectacular human. We cannot afford to let disillusionment an jealousy blind us, so let’s stop comparing and start claiming our own destiny.
Until next time lovies…be sure you are not doing too much!
