Let’s talk about goals baby. Let’s talk about you and me. Let’s talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be. Let’s talk about goals. Okay okay, I had to do my remix on the classic Salt N’ Peppa song Let’s Talk About Sex, but that is not what we are here to talk about today. Today, we are talking about goals.
The month of January is over and I don’t know about you, but I did not get everything I had planned to get done completed coming into the New Year! My room is still chaotic, I still haven’t stockpiled the blogs I wanted to, my sleep routine is not on a schedule, as a result, my workout routine is out of whack, and well it’s just plain frustrating at times. Now, here’s the thing with all of that, even with all of the things I didn’t get done, there are so many great wins among those. Although my room is not as tidy as I’d like, it has helped me gain perspective in terms of realizing that I am busy and therefore, I need to develop a routine of doing a little tidying daily to get my space in a serene place. The lovely stockpile of blogs I wanted to have is non-existent; however, I have managed to remain consistent in posting because my writing and my lovies are very important to me. I definitely have not gotten as much sleep as I would and should have, but this has helped me to recognize that I need to develop a morning and night routine in order to achieve my sleep goal of 7 hours a night. Lastly, my workout routine may be out of whack, but at least I’ve started. You see there is a silver lining in every seemingly dark sky. When we don’t accomplish everything we had hoped, we need to do these three things.
Write down all the things you planned to accomplish in the month of January, then check off all the things you accomplished. Next look at the things you did not accomplish. Here is where the evaluation comes in. Think of all the reasons that you didn’t accomplish those things and make note of them literally. Seriously, get you a pen and paper and write these things down because it is important to keep track of what is getting you off track so you can get back on track. This brings me to the next step.
Make and Take Action Steps.
Now that you have made a list of all the reasons you did not accomplish your goals for the month, it is time to make note of corrective action steps. Go through each of your reasons and come up with a solution to it. This will, in turn, open your mind to a new way of achieving your goal. If at first, we don’t succeed, we must try again. Most of the time it is not that we set a goal that is unattainable, it’s that we just didn’t take the best actions steps to get us closer to that goal. By correcting what we did wrong, we give ourselves a new plan or alternative route to gaining success. Speaking of success, that leads me to the third and final step.
Celebrate Your Success.
Don’t get bogged down in all that you did not accomplish. You have some things that you did accomplish this month no matter how big or small. Celebrate those things. When we remember to celebrate our successes it gives us the motivation we need to carry on and accomplish more. You can even celebrate being able to identify where you went wrong on those things you didn’t get accomplished. It’s an amazing thing to have critical thinking skills that help you better chart your course for success.
Now see, weren’t those 3 simple steps easy? Plus you can utilize these every month and before you know it. Most if not all of your goals will be accomplished.
So tell me, what are your goals for the month of February?
Until next time Lovies…keep that go-getter spirit.
