One of the key components of LOVE is action. Love is not one of those words that didn’t require anything. It calls each and every one of us to a higher standard of living just because of everything it is and represents. In John 3:16 NIV it reads, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This very scripture is where my first explanation of love was taught to me as a child. Now, I don’t know about you, but I sure can’t imagine giving my one and only child for the sake of a bunch of strangers. I don’t have children yet, but I just understand the relationship between mother and child. When I think of love in this capacity it shows me that love entails 3 key things: selflessness, giving, and sacrifice. I want to charge you to put the action in your love in these 3 ways for the next 28 days. These 28 days are sure to help you form a lifestyle that will help you leave a legacy of love.
Be a Selfless Soul
Selflessness is a very simple concept in thought, but hard in deed. To be selfless simply means to forego what you want for the good of someone else. It is considering yourself last instead of first. Now I know I speak on self-love, but that is simply because in order to truly understand love in the way that it needs to be understood we must first experience it for ourselves and with ourselves. It is our love for self that qualifies us to love others. Now we can put the action behind the word and show others that we don’t need to always think of ourselves first because we are whole and complete in the love of Jesus, which now allows us to lend ourselves and give freely of this everlasting love supply through selflessness.
Be a Giving Genie
We all have heard that is better to give than it is to receive and this is true. You get more when you give more, not that getting should be our motive for giving, but it is just the truth of the matter. The law of giving and receiving is a powerful tool that functions in our universe and it is one that benefits both the giver and the receiver. You really can’t beat that. The thing about giving is it is so easy to do and once you adopt this way of life it becomes addictive. All of those positive vibes you get knowing that you blessed someone is priceless and it is even more fun when they don’t even know it was you. We function as angelic beings when we give of our time and resources. Before you know it, you will be known as the giving genie because you make everyday dreams a reality by being a giver.
Make a Sacred Sacrifice
A sacrifice is a sacred act. We dig deep when we choose to sacrifice something we hold dear in order to illuminate someone else’s world. I will never forget being a little girl and opening Christmas gifts and seeing everything I wanted. One year or maybe even two, my mom asked me what my two favorite gifts were. I pointed them out and then she told me I had to choose one of the two to give to a friend of mine that was not as fortunate as me. Oh, I cried like a baby because I had worked hard asking Santa for those, but my tears did not phase my mom one bit. I didn’t understand then, but my mom was teaching me what it meant to sacrifice in a way I could understand. I will forever be grateful to my mom for instilling this principle in me at an early age. Now, it’s just a part of life for me. Today I challenge you to make sacred sacrifices that benefit others. Let someone over on the interstate instead of focusing on not letting them over, volunteer some of your free time with a charity or organization, become a mentor. There are so many ways we can sacrifice that will show love because of our intentional action.
Until next time lovies…be the love you want to see!
