Let’s Sound Off!
I’m coining this month as “Sound Off September”. We have reached the last quarter of the year and it is time for us to reflect, refocus, and go hard in the paint as it relates to our dreams. It’s time to forget about all that we have not accomplished and figure out how we are going to make something happen before the clock strikes midnight on January 1, 2019. Four months is more than enough time for you to plan that trip you’ve been meaning to take or launch that business that you’ve been meaning to start or register and study for that certification that you’ve been meaning to get. Whatever it is that you want to achieve, guess what?; you can do it. Here are my 3 tips for making sure you sound off in September.
Reflect On and Re-evaluate Your Goals
At the beginning of a new year, we all are bubbling over to set these amazing goals that will help us take over the world or at least our portion of the world. However, in some instances, we were overly ambitious. Maybe we failed to plan actionable steps that would help us achieve these goals or maybe it was just too much to accomplish all in a year’s time. No matter what the reason is, it is time to reflect and reevaluate.
Get that notebook that you wrote your goals down in and check off the ones you have completed. Then look at the list of items left and pick 1, no more than 2 goals you can actually complete or make huge strides towards accomplishing before the year is complete. Write those 2 items down on separate sheets of paper for the next action step that I will give you.
Plan Actionable Steps
We’ve all heard the phrase, “where we fail to plan, we plan to fail”. This is so true. Having a dream is one thing, but actually making that dream a reality is an entirely different venture. We need to start developing a plan of attack for all of our dreams. The military doesn’t go to war without strategic plans and weapons, so we can’t accomplish our goal unarmed with no plan either. How do you do this? I’m glad you asked.
You’ve already written down your one or two goals to accomplish before the year-end on separate sheets of paper. Now we need to make a chronological list of what we need to do in order to achieve these goals. For example:
- Develop a name for the business.
- Check for domain name availability
- Purchase domain name
- Establish the vision for the business
- Develop the mission of the business
- Create a catchy tagline
- Get logo with tagline designed
That is just an example of how you can get started. You can be as detailed or simplified as you like just make sure you write enough to keep you on track so it will make going from one step to another easy for you. This is the blueprint for your dream.
Start Strong, Finish Stronger
Now comes the fun part, making it happen. As my mama told me, “it ain’t nothin’ to it, but to do it”. Let’s implement those steps by setting a date to get them done and check them off one by one once completed.
Set dates. My suggestion is 1 action step a week. Some may even take two or three weeks, such as any type of graphic designing or web development. Be sure to save those types of steps for last or do it in conjunction with steps that help you stay on track and keep things moving. You will have completed your project or made great strides towards completion by year-end. I hope these tips were helpful. Are there any tips that you utilize when mapping out and accomplishing your dreams? I’d love to hear them.
Until next time lovies…get it done!!!
